Welcome to the latest CoverYourASP newsletter!
**********************************************************
OK, hands up who wants to receive this newsletter FOUR
times today?!
As you're well aware I've had a few problems recently with
the newsletter being sent out two, then three times.
I'm sorry. I promise I was angrier than you were...

Well, it's up. CoverYourASP now has member services. Or
more accurately it has a membership system in place.
The features are:
> Members can register themselves via a form.
> Validation of membership changes via email.
> Sign in/out using users email address and password.
> Option to sign in automatically using a cookie.
> Ability to send password to members who forget.
> Multiple levels of membership with more functionality.
> Free Bronze membership to include database storage of
site personalization.
and some soon to come:
> Easy upgrade to higher membership level using PayPal.
> Secure download of manual available to Silver members.
Go ahead and explore the system, and please let me know
what you think.
I expect you to have fun with the Personalization page,
where you can specify how you want the front page to
look.
You can specify:
Introduction - Yes/No
Number of new articles (0 is allowed)
Number of popular articles (0 is allowed)
Categories - Yes/No
ASPWire news - Yes/No
It's great fun, and it's stored in the database so no
matter where you sign in from you'll see your design.

Not quite ready to switch to SQL Server or the Win2000
server yet, but getting close. One thing came up with
regard to the Win2000 servers use of ASPMail though.
I've used CDONTS until now, although my code was written
to support JMail and ASPMail.
However, I'll have to change over when I move to the
new server, so I tried it out.
It failed! :-(
I read the ASPMail docs and there were no clues,
but luckily my ISP has a couple of very switched on
guys. Christoph Haugner pointed out that the From
address MUST match the remost host address!
This is a little problem with my contact form where I
instinctively set the from address to the person
sending me the email. Now I just set the Reply-to
field to their email address, and the mail is sent
"from" [email protected].
Hopefully this tip will save you the hour it cost me!

Hero of the Week!
Christoph at EverPlanet takes the honor this week for
his help with my ASPMail problem. They are amazingly
helpful, and at $8.95 a month for ASP/COM/FSO/etc
hosting you should check them out.

Scott Hislop kindly let me know the answer to his
problems getting the site to work on his Win95/PWS
setup.
I'll let him tell the story:
"Turns out the problem was with the version of jet
that I had on my machine (win95, access 97 and only
jet 2.5 or something). A search for the error number
revealed a knowledge base article on the reasons and
possible fixes.
This recommended I install new MDAC drivers and
because I'm only running win95 other drivers
(DCOM95). I downloaded version 2.5 of MDAC and
first removed PWS, then installed DCOM95, then
MDAC2.5 then PWS again. I was upset to see that I
was still getting the same error message however a
quick look in the registry showed the version of jet
to be 4.0. I changed the provider string in your
config.asp file to sAccess2000 and it worked!
After all that I wonder if I couldn't have just
changed the OLEDB provider to the version of the jet
engine I had previously, ie. 2.5?"

There are so many bug fixes, modifications and
improvements throughout the site there are too many
to list.
If you've downloaded the site, I can only suggest
you do it again!
Talking of the download, the "small one" is no longer
available. It wasn't small anymore, and it was hardly
ever downloaded.
The only download now available is the whole site,
including Access 97 database. Today this stands at
202kb.
Sorry that it's getting bigger, I'll have to look at
a way of you getting just the new parts...

That's it for me. Time to visit my wife in the next
room and see if I remember what she looks like. ;-)
Next week? Don't be surprised if I'm feeling too
full of turkey to do anything.
Happy Thanksgiving in advance!
Regards,
James Shaw
